Biography of Ignaty Shafranov

Description:
Lived in Vitebsk and worked as a grease monkey for railroad cars. In 1930 he was arrested in a case against German Catholic clergy and laity. Charged with “organizing illegal border crossings into Latvia for Catholic clergy.” April 20, 1931 – sentenced under Articles 58-4 and 72 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to three years in corrective labor camp [OGPU Collegium].
